| Note | Sam Doubleday served as a Soldier in the first World War and was badly w ounded, losing a leg. He was a founder member of the Oldham Branch, Bri tish Limbless Ex Servicemen Association (BLESA) and actively involved w ith the Association all his life. He was National President of the Asso ciation 1935 to 1936 and was a representative and speaker at a protest a ssembly in London, to draw Parliaments attention to the inadequate valu e of the war pension in 1952. After the death of his first wife in 1961, he married again to Edith Me llor. He was living at 6 Lynmouth Avenue, Oldham until becoming ill and w ent into Oldham General Hospital, where he died. He was cremated in Hol linwood Cemetary |
